Garena announced it's Garena Professional League (GPL) in May 2012, a six month-long professional gaming competition that features more than 100 matches online. GPL's first season is an on-line League of Legends tournament with six teams of professional players. Each team is comprised of the best players in their respective nations. GPL games are filmed and broadcast live online, along with commentaries. Garena Premier League, 2013 includes two teams from Taiwan & Vietnam. There are eight teams has now been raised to nine. AHQ, Saigon Fantastic Five, Bangkok Titans, Kuala Lumpur Hunters, Manila Eagles, Taipei Assassins, and Singapore Sentinels are the teams. In November 2014, the Garena Electronic Sports Stadium, an arena specifically designed for e-sports was opened within Neihu District, Taipei. The studio was constructed to host an event called the League of Legends Masters Series which is the top-of-the-line LoL Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau league that was a spin-off of GPL. Garena started with the Iron Solari League - a League of Legends competition for women in the Philippines beginning in January 2015. This is a bi-monthly event that is played in the second halves of each month. It is designed to promote participation among those who are underrepresented, and is accessible to all who identify as a female. Garena not only organizes tournaments but also other offline events and events that allow users to meet.
